Scotland souvenir photograph album [graphic], 1890-1894.

Photograph album of souvenir views of Scotland, circa 1890-1894. The album was given to John Clay (1808-1885), who was born in Scotland and became of the the U.S.'s top ranch managers and dealers in livestock and agriculture, by Col. Hervey in 1894. The photographs depict castles, abbeys, and other views in Edinburgh, as well as views of the Scottish landscape. The photographers are unidentified.

John Clay was born in Scotland in 1851, moved to Canada around 1877 and to Chicago in 1882. He became a U.S. citizen and owned ranches in Wyoming and other areas. He ran the largest livestock commission firm in the U.S. and controlled almost 24 banks. Clay, one of America's leading ranch managers and founder of businesses dealing with agriculture and livestock, died in 1934.
